Road and Bridge Toll Systems
AIS has developed a road and bridge toll system based on standard EPOS equipment and PCs. This provides an extremely cost-effective solution. The company has also developed interfaces for smart cards, automatic tags and vehicle classification equipment.
Itchen toll bridge
There are over six million vehicle crossings on the Itchen bridge each year, and tolls are charged according to the type of vehicle.
AIS developed and supplied a toll system based on the standard SFW package to replace an old (non millennium compliant) system. The AIS system uses EPOS equipment and a PC in each toll booth, linked back to a dual SQL Server database located in the control room with a full back office application for reporting, shift reconciliation and configuration of the application (e.g. tolls). The toll booth PCs interface to traffic lights, toll displays and an induction loop that detects the vehicle driving off.
Key facts:
- Complete toll system application from front end processing to back office
- Delivered on time and installed in phases concurrent with the removal of the old system
