Quality Standards

AIS has been delivering high quality systems for more than quarter of a century. Safety, quality and process rigour are critical to everything we do at AIS and we are proud of our unblemished track record for quality and best practice.

Significance of our quality standards

The breadth of quality standard approvals achieved by AIS differentiates us from other companies operating as safety monitoring and control automation specialists globally – it is these approvals and the standards that they represent that are key to our System Integration capability.

ISO9001 & TickITplus

We have been externally certified to ISO 9001 since 1994 and the Company was an early adopter of the additional TickITplus standard for software developers. We were re-certified ISO9001 and for TickITplus in 2018.

Achieving ISO 9001:2015 quality management approval means AIS has demonstrated the ability to provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements consistently; and enhance customer satisfaction through the application of processes for improvement of the company’s systems.

TickITplus Approval

AIS are also certified as a TickITplus software developer. This is an additional certification relevant to the supply of IT and software systems.

When the TickIT sector scheme was introduced in the early 1990s it served to fill the gap in providing software trained assessors/auditors and the infrastructure needed to certify software development organisations to ISO 9001.

TickITplus was added later to add a capability dimension to the existing TickIT scheme full certification at the highest levels of process capability, with the rigours imposed and the recognition gained.

Although it has been in existence for nearly three decades, very few system integrators and software developers have been certified to the rigorous TickITplus standard.

TickITplus is much more than just a software development certification scheme, it demonstrates that AIS offers a flexible, multi-level approach to software development and IT quality that adheres to multiple international IT standards.

BS EN 61508 – SIL Rated Safety Systems

Since 2005, we have been specifying, delivering and maintaining life safety systems under BS EN 61508. We lead the field in applying this standard to road and rail tunnels. The Fixed Fire Fighting System for the Dartford tunnels was the first SIL2 certified FFFS (Fixed Fire Fighting system) in the world.

AIS’s TickITplus approval underpins the way we approach the development of safety systems for clients. AIS has developed a dedicated set of procedures for designing, building, testing and delivering safety systems and works with the independent safety consultancy – Abbot Risk Consulting – to undertake SIL reports. These cover the Determination (safety requirements during the early stage of the project) and SIL Verification stages (proof that the delivered system meets the SIL requirement).

BS EN 50128 – SIL Rated Safety Systems for Railway Applications

We work to the BS EN 50128 industry standard, for demonstrating that AIS complies with the development, deployment and maintenance requirements of safety-related software intended for railway control and protection applications. This includes the requirements related to organisational structure plus the relationship between organisations and the division of responsibility involved in development, deployment and maintenance activities. It demonstrates the robustness of software developed by AIS which is approved to SIL2 and SIL3 levels.

ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Standard

ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive advantage and the trust of stakeholders. Engaging AIS as a supplier means that your organisation is working with a partner that understands your regulatory and contractual requirements and is committed to actively protecting our environment.
